Long Time No See!

21 Jun

Sorry I’ve been away for so long. I’ve been quite busy…becoming a City and Guild’s qualified bike mechanic! So next on the list of things to do is to find myself a job as a mechanic. I’m going back to the academy tomorrow to see if they can hook me up with a placement, fingers crossed!

Over the next week or so I plan to write about each day on the course, and hopefully post some tutorials about what I learned along the way. For now, here is a picture of the Barry Hoban I built for the course, only half done though, I’ve got to finish building the wheels tomorrow!

Mixte Project

my mixte

So this is my new bike. A beautiful steel, lugged mixte frame! It’s a Barry Hoban frame and is in near perfect condition. I’m really excited about restoring it and working on it during my mechanics training.

I want to make it into a light tourer/commuter bike, I just can’t work out exactly what I want to have on it. So far I plan to get some really good mudguards, a rack and these¬†panniers. I just can’t decide¬†how I want the handlebars…

Do I keep the drop road bars that are on there now for a more racy look and feel, or should I go for something more relaxed like this and have a basket on the front:

any thoughts?
